Now I'm finally listening to music with foobar (I had to go into foobar preferences to select the Schiit output device too) for the first time on my Windows 7 computer. I knew it wasn't a mechanical malfunction or bad USB cable cuz the DAC had always worked on the dual-booted Linux OS I also have on this desktop. I right-clicked on each folder, went to Properties, Advanced, and saw a checkmark "encrypt contents to secure data" (not sure how this happened, cuz I didn't do it.) After unchecking the box, and applying to all files and folders, I went back into Device Manager to uninstall the Schiit USB device, and tried to re-install drivers by browsing from the newly un-encrypted driver folders, And It Worked! But Device Manager driver install kept failing without much useful explanation.īut when I navigated in Explorer to the Schiit driver folders I saw the folders and filenames were listed in GREEN, and after googling learned that this means the files and folders were encrypted. In Device Manager, after deleting the inoperative USB device (with yellow caution mark) and refreshing, I tried to self-install drivers I had d/l'd from the Schiit site (and I downloaded all three versions, Gen 1, 2, and 3, of drivers). Hey u/The-Narcissist, I know this post is old, but I just figured out how to install the Schiit Modi drivers after quite a few months of pain and frustration. Has anyone else encountered similar issues? I can supply more information in a few hours if necessary. I switched the usb cable from a 3.0 slot on my mobo to a 2.0 slot, and it still would not install. I’m currently at work, so I cannot at this moment remember exactly what the error message said, but it was along the lines of “usb 2.0 cable not connected, aborting installation”. I’ve tried downloading the drivers off of Schiit’s site, but they will not install. Updating the drivers through Windows does not work. Neither show up in my sound settings, and in device manager it shows up as a USB audio device whose drivers are not working. When I plug it into the computer, windows attempts to set up the devices, but it never works. I have the PYST cables connected, the power cable connected, and the usb connected to the computer. No spam ever (we hate it as much as you do).New to the amp/DAC scene, I bought a Schiit Magni 3+ and a Modi 3, but I’m running into some errors trying to get them to work with Windows. There's another method which includes replacing the chip, but this involves soldering 100 tiny legs, which I'm not a fan of, but you can find some information here Enjoying the post? Now, I can't take any credit for this solution, the real MVP is vavvo966 who posted the following Apply heat directly to the Schiit Modi 2 for 10 - 15 seconds. There's an error message when plugging the Modi into Windows which is something like "USB device not recognized, the last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." The solutionĪ hairdryer. The Modi 2 has some real issues with Windows 10, I belive the Modi 3 solves all of these issues. Having recently purchased a Schiit Modi 2 from eBay, just to try out before commiting to something a little more expensive (and reliable). Sorry for the off-topic post, but this has been bugging me for months
